Banking Survey 2008
This survey has been prepared by KPMG Taseer Hadi & Co. and
summarizes the performance of selected banks in Pakistan during
the year 2008.
Banking sector in Pakistan has been divided in
four categories for the purpose of this survey to ease comparison
of peer groups. Banks with total assets in excess of Rs. 200 billion
are categorised as “Large Size Banks”, banks with total
assets from Rs. 51 billion to Rs. 199 billion are categorised as
“Medium Size Banks”, and banks with total assets up
to Rs. 50 billion are categorised as “Small Size Banks”
and “Islamic Banks”.
The information contained in this survey has been
obtained from the published consolidated financial statements of
the banks, statistical bulletins and quarterly / annual reports
published by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and information published
in business magazines and newspapers.
Reference should be made to the published financial
statements of the banks and definitions within this survey to enhance
the understanding of ratios and analysis of performance of a particular
bank.
We have tried to provide relevant financial analyses
of the banks which we thought would be useful for benchmarking and
comparison. However, we will appreciate to receive any comments,
which would facilitate in improving the contents of this survey.
